An Insider's Guide to Rome

Rome is a city whose past and present are mingled on every corner. Iconic landmarks and captivating museums transport travelers back centuries, while bustling street markets and piazzas offer a lively taste of today’s culture. Italy’s capital appeals to all types of travelers, from families to couples, and its food scene is not to be missed.

At least three days is ideal to get a taste of Rome’s amazing offerings, but with a longer stay, visitors can dig a little deeper into the Eternal City’s culture. After seeing famous stops like the Vatican and the Colosseum, don’t miss more intimate experiences, like viewing Bernini sculptures in the Borghese Gallery’s mansion setting or making the climb up Janiculum Hill for breathtaking city views.

A little grittier than Florence and more cosmopolitan than the Amalfi Coast, Rome is the perfect entry point for exploring Italy, offering easy access to other regions via high-speed train. Tack on a few extra days to visit fascinating Pompeii and Vesuvius, head to the wine regions of Tuscany, or unwind with stunning views on Lake Como.

Whatever your travel style, connect with me, and I will tailor an Italian getaway just for you.

An Insider's Guide to Where to Go, Eat and Stay in Florence

Florence is an elegant city where history and culture are present everywhere. Set along the scenic banks of the Arno River, the city is celebrated as the birthplace of the Renaissance, a pivotal era that reshaped science and philosophy, as well as produced some of the world’s greatest artists. The Uffizi Gallery displays an incredible collection of Renaissance art, including works by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli.

Easily walkable, Florence is home to iconic architectural landmarks. The Duomo was designed by Brunelleschi and dominates the skyline, while the Ponte Vecchio — a medieval stone bridge lined with jewelry merchants — spans the Arno and connects the city center with the creative Oltrarno district. Whether you're exploring the grandeur of the Palazzo Pitti, enjoying the blossoms at the Boboli Gardens or savoring a gelato in a charming piazza, Florence is sure to charm you with its beauty and heritage.

Roundup: My Favorite Michelin Key Hotels in France

Michelin, that French tire company and global master of culinary taste, announced its eponymous Key, the Michelin Star of hotels, in April 2024. Like the Michelin Star, the Michelin Key began in France, and has since been applied to properties in the US, Spain and Italy.

There are 189 Michelin Key hotels in France: an elite 24 with three Keys, 38 with two Keys and 127 with one Key. Of these, Fora gets perks at over three quarters (although I can still book your stay at most Key hotels, even if they’re not part of a specific perks program).

Many of Fora’s favorite and top-booked properties made the cut, and I certainly have my eye on a few swoon-worthy newcomers. That’s the beauty of Michelin: they cover it all. Tiny, under-the-radar gems and regal grande-dames alike are eligible. The company does its due diligence.

Below, a few of my favorite Michelin Key hotels in France, separated by number of Keys.
